IBPS stands for the Institute of Banking Personnel Selection which is an autonomous recruitment body that is established by the government of India (GOI). The Institute of Banking Personnel Selection (IBPS) is a recruitment body that was started with an aim to encourage the recruitment and placement of young graduates in public sector.

Exams Under IBPS Jurisdiction:



IBPS SO : This examination conducted by IBPS is for “Specialist Officers” that

comprises Scale 1 SO offers grade management services at the junior level across

areas like HR, IT, Marketing, Law, etc and Scale 2 SO that requires specializations like

an MBA, PG, PGDBM, CFA, etc and also the work experience.

IBPS CLERK : It basically consists of two exams - The preliminaries and the mains, and

is conducted for recruitment to clerical posts.

IBPS PO : This category also includes two exams - the preliminaries and the mains

exam. After that interview follows the exam. All the Graduates are free to apply to this

post and those who qualify this exam are inducted as AM on a probationary basis.

IBPS RRB : By this exam, GroupA personnel of scale 1, 2 & 3, and Group B personnel are recruited. All the essential degrees and work experience are required for this exam.

Admission Process:




  • Eligible candidates can fill the application form through online mode only at the official website of IBPS.
  • Candidates will have to register for the exam, fill the application form, upload documents, and pay the application fees for IBPS PO 2020.
  • Application fees of INR 600 for General Category candidates and INR 100 for the Reserved category must be paid in online mode. ​
  • Eligible candidates for Pre Exam Training must apply for the same in the application form.
  • Candidates can check the status of their application by visiting the official website of IBPS and enter their login ID and Password.
  • Post successful registration for PO Exam, Institute of Banking Personnel Selection will issue IBPS PO Admit Card 2020.
  • This year, the Preliminary exam will be conducted on October 3, 4, and 10, 2020, and Main exam for IBPS PO is scheduled for November 28, 2020.

Nationality/Citizenship: Candidates must be either Citizen of India or Subject of Nepal or Bhutan or Tibetan Refugee who settled in India before January 1962 or person of Indian origin who migrated from Pakistan, Burma, Sri Lanka, East African countries (Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda, Ethiopia, Malawi, Zambia) Zaire, and Vietnam.

Age Limit: The minimum age limit is 20 years and the maximum age limit is 30 years, as on 1 August 2020. Check the upper age relaxation for different categories:

*Candidates need to indicate the percentage obtained in Graduation while registering for IBPS PO 2020. Candidates must possess the authentic mark sheet or degree certificate, validating their completion of Graduation.


Role of a Bank PO:


As the candidates selected for this post are young officers who have freshly graduated, they have a great enthusiasm within themselves. They are hardworking and have a zest to learn and hence they are imparted with some really serious responsibilities by the bank.

A PO is trained on multiple verticals such as finance, accounting, billing, investment etc. during his/ her probation period in order to acquaint them with various working procedures of the bank. This is basically done by entrusting them with responsibilities and jobs in these categories.

The main purpose of the bank is to provide optimal service to its customers. A PO has to make sure that the business of the bank keeps on increasing by tending to the banks’ customers properly by handling customer complaints, addressing various customer related issues such as discrepancies in accounts, rectification of undue charges etc.

When they get acclimatized to the banks’ norms they are provided with more serious responsibilities such as planning, budgeting, loan processing, investment management etc.



What after IBPS PO Exam?




After the IBPS PO Interview, the candidates are shortlisted on the basis of merit cum preference and they will have to participate in the post allotment process. IBPS PO Salary:




The banks pay their probationary officers quite handsomely. The basic pay of a SBI PO is Rs 23,700. In addition to this basic pay, the officers are also eligible for Dearness Allowance (DA), House Rent Allowance (HRA), CCA, special allowance etc. The total salary thus amounts to Rs 40,239 per month.

The salary is almost same for POs of almost all the banks. You still might encounter a little variation from bank to bank.
