WHAT IS NDA?
The National Defence Academy (NDA) is
the joint services academy of the Indian Armed Forces,
where cadets of the three services, the Army,
the Navy and the Air Force train together before they go on
to respective service academy for further pre-commission training. The NDA is
located in Khadakwasla, Pune, Maharashtra. It is the first tri-service
academy in the world.
The
alumni of NDA include 3 Param Vir Chakra recipients and
12 Ashoka Chakra recipients. NDA has also produced 27 service Chiefs
of Staff till date. The current Chiefs of Staff of the Army,
the Navy and the Air Force are all NDA alumni from the same
course. The 137th course passed out on 30 November 2019, consisting of 188
Army cadets, 38 Naval cadets, 37 Air Force cadets and 20 cadets from friendly
foreign countries.

The
Commandant of the National Defence Academy is the head and overall in-charge of
the academy. The Commandant is a three-star rank officer from the three Services in
rotation. Major General Asit Mistry, DSO was the first
commandant of JSW at IMA. Major General E Habibullah was the last head of
the JSW and the First Commandant of NDA at Pune. Air Marshal I. P. Vipin, VM is the present commandant. Lt Gen Jatinder Singh, the
twenty eighth commandant, was accused in a recruitment scandal and removed from
his post for corruption.

ADMISSION PROCESS-
Applicants
to the NDA are selected via a written exam conducted by the UPSC, followed
by extensive interviews by the Services Selection
Board covering general aptitude, psychological testing, team
skills as well as physical and social skills, along with medical
tests. Incoming classes are accepted twice a year for semesters starting in
July and January. About 4,50,000 applicants sit for each written exam every
year. Typically, about 6,300 of these are invited to interview. The minimum age
should be 16 and half years and maximum age should be 19 and half years. Apply in

The
prestigious Inter Squadron Championship Trophy is awarded to the best Squadron.
The champion squadron has the proud tradition of possession of the Champion
banner for one term, which is carried during the parade and other sports meets.
Each Squadron has its own nickname, an individual identity with a richly
textured history and mascot.
NDA eligibility criteria for 2021-

General Eligibility:
·
Nationality: Indian
national, a subject of Bhutan or a subject of Nepal category candidates will be
eligible for NDA 2021 OR
·
A Tibetan refugee who came India (before 1st January 1962) with
intention of permanently settling in India OR
·
Indian origin person who migrated from Sri Lanka, Pakistan, East
African, Burma countries of Uganda, Kenya, the united public of Tanzania,
Zambia, Zaire, Vietnam or Ethiopia and Malawi with Intention of permanently
settling in India.
·
Marital Status: Candidates must be unmarried to be eligible for NDA 2021.
·
Gender: Only male category candidates will be eligible to
apply.
·
Age Limit: Candidate’s
age must be between 16.5 to 19.5 years to be eligible for NDA 2021 examination.

I- Applying candidates must be born between 2nd July 2002 to 1st July
2005.
o NDA
II- Applying candidates must be born between 2nd January 2003 to 1st
January 2006.
Education
Qualification:
·
For Army Wing or National
Defence Academy: Candidates must qualify 12th or equivalent examination from
any recognized board or university to be eligible for examination.
·
For Air force & Naval wings
of NDA & for 10+2 cadet entry scheme at the Indian Naval Academy : Applying
candidates must qualify 12th with Physics & Mathematics as their compulsory
subject to be eligible for examination.
·
Physical fitness:
Candidates must be physically fit as per the norms laid down by officials.
·
Appearing:
Candidates appearing in the qualifying exam will be also eligible to apply for
NDA.

People after NDA exam
those who have cleared NDA, are called for SSB, if they clear it, they undergo
medicals, if medicals are also cleared, then they join NDA via merit. At NDA, all cadets of
Army, air force and navy are trained together for 3 years together, after which they
are given B.SC Degree in science.
After 3 years of NDA, and subsequent one year at IMA/AFA/INA you'll be posted as
lieutenant /flying officer /sub lieutenant, respectively. LIEUTENANT IN INDIAN
ARMY, FLYING OFFICER IN INDIAN AIR FORCE, SUB LIEUTENANT IN INDIAN NAVY.
